Plants with long stolons or rhizomes often several metres long. Leaves bright green; blades mostly 5–8 mm wide. Spikelets 2–4 together enclosed in the upper leaf sheaths. Bristles half to one-third the length of the spikelet. Chiefly coast. Lawns and pastures; weed; waste places. Introd. from E. Africa. Fl. summer. Kikuyu Grass Pennisetum clandestinum
