Glabrous annual or biennial 60–130 cm high. Leaves pinnately or twice pinnately divided; segments 1–3 cm long; those of the basal leaves oblong-ovate; those of the cauline leaves narrow- or linear-lanceolate; all serrulate. Umbels terminal and 3–6 cm diam. or lateral and smaller. Involucral bracts c. half as long as the rays, mostly pinnatifid with linear segments. Bracteoles subulate, c. equalling the pedicels. Flowers white, numerous, c. 3 mm diam. Fruit oblong to ovoid, c. 2 mm long; the ridges pale, prominent. Widespread. Weed of cultivated and vacant land. Introd. from Europe, Asia and N. Africa. Fl. summer. Bishop’s Weed
