Erect, monoecious shrub 30–60 cm high with angular branches. Leaves cuneate to oblong; upper leaves scale-like spirally arranged; lower leaves alternate, 5–25 mm long. Stipules fringed. Flowers small, in axillary clusters surrounded by small brown bracts. Stamens up to 10. Ovary 3-locular. Capsule ovoid.
