Shrubs, mostly dioecious, up to 1 m high. Leaves oblong-lanceolate, obtuse, 2–6 cm long. Male flowers in dense globular clusters, sometimes with a few females intermixed. Whole plant mealy and grey. Salty areas near the sea. Fl. spring–summer. Grey Saltbush
