Decumbent to ascending, annual or perennial, herbs. Leaves alternate or basal, usually thick and fleshy; stipules absent. Flowers in racemes. Sepals 2, persistent. Petals 4–5 sometimes more. Stamens various. Styles 3–4. Ovary 3–4-locular. Capsule 3-valved.
