Major pappus awns 2, erect; secondary awns 4 or more, horizontal; awns barbed distally, with hairs at the base. Basal leaves up to 6 cm long, cuneate, toothed or pinnatifid, sessile, up to 25 mm long. Involucre hemispherical, 3–6 mm diam.; bracts numerous, 2–3 mm long. Ray florets numerous; rays c. 3 mm long, yellow. Cypselas flattened, minutely tuberculate, c. 1.5 mm long. Widespread. Open forests and grasslands on heavy clay soils. Fl. all the year.
