Herbaceous climbers. Leaves compound. Inflorescence branches frequently converted into tendrils. Leaflets 9, deeply dentate, up to 6 cm long. Flowers small, white. Fruit an inflated membranous capsule c. 25 mm diam. Seeds orbicular, black, with a heart-shaped spot.
