Involucral bracts of 2 kinds; the inner white or pinkish, shiny; the outer brownish, dull, thinner. Leaves crowded, linear-terete, 1–4 cm long, margins recurved, tips mucronate and sometimes slightly recurved. Involucre 1–3 mm diam. Florets 6–12. Shrub 1–2 m high, with rusty to yellowish tomentose-pubescent branches. Widespread. Open forests. Fl. chiefly summer. Dolly Bush
