Woody climbers or scrambling shrubs. Leaves alternate, lanceolate to elliptic or ovate, usually coriaceous, dark green on the upper surface, yellowish underneath, entire or serrulate. Flowers in terminal panicles, 5-merous, dioecious, 3–4.5 mm diam., greenish; disc prominent. Ovary 3-locular. Fruit a coriaceous capsule opening loculicidally. Seeds enveloped in an orange or yellow-green aril
