Erect shrubs. Leaves reduced to minute persistent scales. Branchlets green. Flowers bisexual, white, small, numerous, scattered singly along the branchlets apparently forming racemes or spikes of various lengths. Perianth 5-lobed, surrounded by a number of small bracts. Ovary inferior; style short. Fruit drupaceous, finally dry, crowned by the persistent perianth lobes.Hybridization may occur between these species.
