Small herbs often turning red. Leaves opposite, succulent, cylindrical, subcylindrical or globular; stipules absent. Sepals 4–5. Petals 4–5, white or reddish. Stamens 4–5, hypogynous or perigynous, alternating with petals. Carpels free or basally connate, equal and opposite to petals.
