(4 endemic, 6 naturalized); all states and territoriesLeafless, usually annual parasites; the small root usually dying away as soon as the filiform twining yellowish to reddish stems have attached themselves to the host by their haustoria. Flowers subglobular in spike-like or head-like cymes. Corolla white to reddish. Stamens epipetalous, with a scale below each. Ovary 2-locular. Fruit a circumcissile capsule.
