Erect, glabrous shrub up to 3 m high, with green angular stems. Leaves 1–3-foliolate; leaflets 5–12 mm long, readily deciduous. Flowers axillary, c. 2 cm long. Calyx c. 5 mm long, glabrous, 2-lipped the lower with 2 minute teeth and the upper with three minute teeth. Corolla yellow. Style long, spirally coiled. Legume 25–40 mm long, black. Naturalized in a number of places particularly in Blue Mts Introd. from Europe. Fl. spring. English Broom
