Corolla with large dark red area in centre; standard orange and dark red to reddish-brown. Leaves scabrous with tubercles, hairy when very young. Calyx often tinged with red, glabrous or slightly hairy; upper lobes falcate. Shrub usually under 1 m high; branches villous when young, echinate when old. Dry heath. Ss. and laterites. Fl. spring–summer
