Ascending, annual herb up to 20 cm high. Leaves oblanceolate, 1–6 cm long, up to 20 mm wide, entire to sinuate, pubescent, sessile. Heads solitary. Involucre 10–15 mm diam.; bracts 12–18, in 1 row. Ray florets 12–18; rays up to 20 mm long, white, purple underneath. Disc florets yellow, purplish towards the top. Outer cypselas tuberculate; inner ones winged, up to 8 mm long. Garden escape near habitation. Introd. from S. Africa. Fl. spring–summer. Cape Marigold
