Annual herb, glandular pubescent, up to 50 cm high. Leaves alternate, narrow-lanceolate to linear, obscurely dentate; the longest 5–6 cm long. Heads numerous, on short peduncles in the leaf axils. Involucre campanulate, 5–7 mm diam.; bracts linear-lanceolate, in several rows. Ray florets female; rays 1–2 mm long, yellow. Disc florets tubular. Cypselas light brown, 2 mm long, surmounted by a cup supporting the pappus. Pappus of capillary hairs 5–7 mm long. Widespread. Weed of cultivation and waste places. Introd. from the Mediterranean.
