Perennial herbs, hoary to almost glabrous. Leaves sessile or subsessile. Sepals 4. Petals 4, pink, white or purple. Stamens 8. Floral tube slender, tubular, scarcely extending above the ovary. Ovary 4-locular; style filiform; stigma entire, clavate. Capsule long, terete, opening through 4 valves at the summit. Seeds numerous, minute, oblong, with a tuft of hairs at one end.
