Small tree up to 7 m high. Leaves obovate, 10–24 cm long, 5–9 cm wide, dentate, pubescent underneath, almost sessile, glossy. Flowers in rusty-tomentose cymo-panicles. Sepals 5. Petals 5, white. Styles 2–5. Fruit a pear-shaped pome c. 4 cm long. Garden escape naturalized in a number of places. Usually in gullies. Introd. from E. Asia. Loquat
