Deciduous tree with spines on the branches. Bark corky. Leaves 3-foliolate; stipules and stipellae small. Inflorescence a raceme, 20–40-flowered, axillary or terminal. Flowers large, appearing before the leaves, in dense short racemes on stout axillary peduncles. Standard longer than the wings, erect or recurved, red. Stamens connate into two groups. Ovary stipitate. Legume linear to oblong.
