Annual or perennial herbs. Stems erect. Leaves opposite or alternate. Heads terminal and solitary or numerous in a terminal corymb. Involucral bracts in 2–several rows. Ray florets sterile. Disc florets bisexual. Receptacle flat or convex, with chaffy bracts. Cypselas flattened. Pappus of 2 scale-like awns.
