Small tree. Leaves alternate, obovate to oblanceolate, acuminate, glabrous, 8–16 cm long. Flowers in a terminal loose panicle. Petals cream changing to yellow, tomentose inside, 3–4 cm long. Fruit an ovate compressed capsule 2–3 cm long. Seeds numerous, flat, winged. Coast and adjacent plateaus. RF. Fl. spring
