Corolla dark purplish red, c. 12 mm long. Calyx 7–10 mm long. Leaves ovate, 5–15 mm long, with 3–7 coarse teeth or lobes. Erect, glandular pubescent herb up to c. 40 cm high. Widespread. Open forests and grasslands. Introd. from the Mediterranean. Fl. spring–summer
