Small, perennial, decumbent or ascending herb, prostrate or diffuse; stems ± pubescent, becoming woody and knotted. Leaves opposite. stipules membranous, whitish, conspicuous. Flowers numerous, in axillary clusters; often concealed by silvery bracts. Petals 5 and minute or absent. Sepals 5, hooded. Stamens 2–5. Style bifid. Ovary 1-locular. Capsule 1-seeded, enclosed within the calyx.
