Tall and woody, or slender climbers. Leaves opposite. Flowers in cymes. Corolla yellowish or whitish; the tube short; the lobes contorted or valvate in the bud. Anthers exserted, cohering into a cone around the stigma. Ovary 2-locular, surrounded by 5 scales or a 5-lobed disc; style filiform; stigma surrounded by a membranous expansion at the base, usually 2-lobed. Fruit separating into 2 follicles. Seed with a coma of long silky hairs.
