Weak climber with branched leaf-opposed tendrils, most of the tendril branches terminating in a dilated adhesion pad. Leaves palmately 5-foliolate, deciduous; leaflets ovate-elliptic, c. 7mm long, serrate, acute or acuminate. Inflorescence terminal or distinctly leaf-opposed. Petals 4–5, not horned. Style short, thick, simple. Fruit a blackish berry. Garden escape near habitation. Introd. from N. America. Fl. spring–summer. Virginia Creeper
