Erect shrubs 1–3 m high. Leaves pinnately divided, the pinnae again divided pinnately or 2–3-chotomously; segments terete. Flowers in dense, terminal or axillary, cone-like spikes, each flower sessile within a bract. Bracts broad and woody after flowering, persistent, imbricate. Perianth whitish or yellow; segments equally spreading. Anthers sessile. Ovary sessile. Pollen presenter below stigma, club-shaped. Fruiting structure ‘cones’ ovoid to oblong. Fruit an achene, shorter than the bracts.
