Corolla lobes erect, stiff even after the flower has opened. Ovules 3 per ovary. Leaves elliptic-oblanceolate, pubescent, with 3 veins, entire or dentate. Scapes up to 40 cm long. Spikes 4–25 cm long. Seeds 3, greenish. Coast; Cumberland Plain. Open forests, grasslands and waste places. Introd. from S. America. Fl. spring–summer
