Tree, producing suckers. Leaves pinnate; leaflets 11–21, shortly stalked, 15–30 mm long; stipules 2 stout spines. Flowers numerous in axillary racemes. Calyx campanulate, lobes broad. Petals white, c. 18 mm long. Legume c. 8 cm long. Usually occurs where, at some time, it has been planted. Introd. from N. America. Fl. spring. Black Locust
