Shrubs. Leaves simple, spirally arranged; stipules narrow, caducous. Flowers small, whitish, in cymes. Calyx 5-lobed. Petals 5, broad. Stamens 5, opposite the petals, alternating with 5 petal-like linear-lanceolate staminodes. Ovary sessile, 5-locular. Fruit a capsule, tomentose or beset with prickles or bristles.
