Herbs with short thick rootstocks. Leaves mostly basal. Flowers in an erect or ascending dichotomous cyme with opposite bracts which are free or connate around the forks. Sepals 3–5. Corolla yellow, oblique, slit on the upper side and with a small protuberance or spur near the base. Stamens free. Ovary incompletely 2-locular, superior; indusium with stiff hairs.
