Decumbent or ascending perennial. Leaflets 2, ovate to linear, 4–25 mm long; stipules produced into a short auricle at the base. Flowers 6–8 mm long, almost enclosed in a pair of leafy bracts. Corolla yellow and red. Legume indented on the lower suture between the seeds, separating into 1-seeded articles. Widespread. Common amongst grass on heavier soils. Fl. spring–summer
