Trees or shrubs. Leaves opposite or rarely alternate, glabrous, 1- or rarely 3-foliolate. Flowers in small axillary panicles or loose cymes, 4-merous. Stamens 8. Ovary 4–8-locular; ovules 2 per loculus. Fruit a truncate or globular berry.
