Leaves obovate to almost linear, 5–25 mm long, often variable on one plant especially when some are broad. Flowers 8–15 mm long. Seeds usually 6 –8. Erect shrub to 1.5 m high. Very variable and very common. Widespread. DSF and heath. Ss. and old dunes. Fl. summer–autumn
