Spikelets 2 together, one sessile, the other pedicellate, falling whole. Sessile spikelet with 1 bisexual floret and a male or empty lemma below it Pedicellate spikelet male or neuter. Glumes awnless. Lemma of the sessile spikelet awned, that of the pedicellate spikelet awnless. Inflorescence a loose panicle, built up from 1–8-jointed racemes at the ends of the panicle branches. Ligule truncate, ciliate.
