Culm grey-green, terete or obtusely angular. Leaves reduced to basal sheathing scales or with laminas up to half as long as the culm. Glumes orange-brown with hyline margins. Utricle c. 1.5 mm diam., thickened at base, with a very short slightly notched beak. Tufted perennial. Wet places. Uncommon
