Leaves usually oblong-cuneate to lanceolate (cauline leaves sometimes linear), up to 5 cm long, 10–25 mm wide, usually with a silvery tomentum. Involucre broadly turbinate to globular, 3–10 mm diam.; bracts numerous, bright yellow, usually radiating. Florets as long as the involucre. Cypselas glabrous, 1 mm long. Pappus hairs few, 4–5 mm long. Perennial up to 50 cm high. Widespread. Grasslands and forests on better soils. Fl. spring–summer
