Coarse herb up to 5 m high. Leaves fibrous, c. 1 m long, up to 10 cm wide, entire. Flowers in a compact head-like panicle on a leafy scape up to 5 m high. Perianth segments red, c. 10 cm long. Ovary not beaked. Coast and adjacent plateaus. Fl. spring–summer. Giant Lily, Flame Lily, Illawarra Lily or Gymea Lily
