Sterile lemma subulate, with an awn 1–2 mm long. Panicle 5–18 cm long; the branches 3–5 cm long. Spikelets 4.5–6 mm long, silky hairy. Light green, tufted, erect or ascending perennial to 1 m high. Nodes finely pubescent. Coast in drier parts. Open forest. Fl. summer
