Fruit slightly to very elongated, 12–15 x 10–12 mm, cylindrical to urceolate, pedicellate; disc enclosed in the floral tube; valves 3, enclosed. Tree up to 25 m high. Bark rough throughout, fibrous-flaky, furrowed. Leaves 10–18 x 4–8cm. Lateral veins parallel; angle 50–65°; intramarginal vein 1–2 mm from the margin, Umbels solitary in the axils or a few together in a panicle, 7–11-flowered; peduncles compressed, 2–3 cm long, 4–7 mm wide. Operculum conical, beaked, c. as long as the floral tube. Coast. DSF. Often in swamps. Fl. spring. Swamp Mahogany
