Glabrous, climbing perennial up to 10 m high. Leaves narrow-lanceolate, 10–30 cm long, with a spirally coiled tip and a closed sheath around the stem. Flowers small, in a terminal panicle, regular, bisexual. Perianth segments 6, free, in 2 whorls. Stamens 6. Ovary superior, 3-locular; style 3-lobed. Fruit drupaceous, small, nearly globular. Coast. RF.
