Herbs or sometimes shrubs. Leaves basal or alternate. Flowers axillary or in terminal thyrses racemes or spikes. Sepals 5. Corolla yellow or rarely purplish; the 3 anterior lobes sub-erect or reflexed and the 2 posterior ones arching over the indusium. Stamens free. Ovary semi- or wholly inferior, incompletely 2-locular; lip of the indusium covered with stiff hairs (Fig. 25). Fruit a capsule. Seeds compressed.
