Perennial herb to 2 m high. Leaves lanceolate, up to 40 cm long, 15 cm wide; ligule membranous, 25 mm long, 20 mm wide. Inflorescence a spike to 35 cm long with 1–2 flowers in each bract. Flowers yellow. Staminodes twice as long as the labellum, filaments bright red. Capsule walls thin, orange on inner surface. Aril red. North from Sydney. Introd. from India. Fl. summer-autumn
