Spikelets with 1 floret, disarticulating above the glumes. Glumes densely villous or plumose, 1 cm long. Lemma with 3 awns; the terminal ones 10–12 mm long; the dorsal one 15–20 mm long, with a bend below the centre. Rhachilla prolonged into a bristle almost as long as the shorter awns. Inflorescence a dense ovoid spike. Leaf blades villous or pubescent; ligule hairy. Annual. Sea coasts on sand dunes. Introd. from the Mediterranean. Fl. summer. Harestail Grass
