Erect, bulbous herb up to 1 m high. Leaves linear, up to 16 cm long, sessile, scattered along the stem. Flowers in very short terminal racemes. Perianth segments white, with purplish markings on the back, c. 13 cm long. Stamens 6; filaments filiform. Ovary 3-locular; style 3-lobed. Introd. from Asia. Garden escape, naturalized and widespread
