Shrubs. Leaves alternate or opposite. Heads solitary or in compound inflorescences. Involucre broad-hemispherical to narrow-ovate; bracts imbricate in several rows. Receptacle pitted, without scales. Ray florets female, in a single row, white or blue. Disc florets bisexual tubular. Cypselas, terete or slightly compressed. Pappus of numerous, usually unequal capillary bristles.
