Spikelets with 1 terminal bisexual floret and a rudimentary one below it, in one-sided clusters in a panicle, disarticulating below the glumes. Glumes awned; the lower one with the longer awn. Lemmas awnless. Palea hardened around the fruit. Inflorescence a one-sided panicle up to 10 cm long. Decumbent perennials much branched, rooting at the nodes. Ligule of hairs.
