Leaves generally undivided occasionally with one or two lobes on either side; not fleshy and drying thin; margins with frequent small teeth15–25 per side. Rays 5–10 mm long. Inflorescence with 2–20 heads. Cypsela, 1.5–2 mm long, 0.3–0.5 mm diam. Pappus 3–5 mm long, not persistent. Perennial, glabrous or sparsely hairy herb up to 50 cm high. Widespread. Weed of cultivation, waste places and pastures. Introd. from S. Africa. Fl. most of the year. Fireweed
