Arborescent fern up to 3 m high; caudex erect, covered with the broken bases of the old stipes. with 2–14 crowns of clustered and often stiffly erect fronds. Stipes not articulated to the caudex, pilose near the base with soft fawn glandular-tipped hairs, winged at the base with 2 broad stipular extensions. Fronds 2-pinnate (or 1-pinnate-pinnatifid in young plants), coriaceous, non-transparent, light green, usually 6–2.4 m long including the stipes; stomates present. Fertile pinnae borne towards the base of the lamina, not reduced. Veins free. Widespread. In crevices of sandstone cliffs or on creek banks in open forests; less commonly in RF. King Fern
