Spikelets with 1 floret, awnless, 2 or rarely 3 together on very short pedicels in a simple spike-like panicle 5–10 cm long. Lower glume absent; upper glume and sterile lemma subequal, 3–4 mm long, each with rows of rigid hooked bristles on the back (Fig. 50g). Annual up to 30 cm high. Leaf blades flat, bordered by rigid cilia, 2–5 cm long; ligule ciliate. Grasslands; roadsides; usually on clay soils. Fl. summer. Small Burr Grass
