Female inflorescence chestnut brown due to the almost complete absence of bracts at least at the surface, sometimes separated from the male inflorescence by 2 cm of bare axis or more (or continuous). Stigmas narrow-obovate. Leaves ± blue-green, biconvex. Erect perennial, usually 2–3 m high. Widespread in standing water. more common than T. domingensis in the area, and sometimes a pest
